Seismic design and health sector engineering are among the fields that Ray has cultivated in the past three decades.

As a partner and director of CBP since 1980, Ray is a first-call engineer for many public and private sector construction clients in Wellington and throughout New Zealand. He uses the strengths of specialist skills within the company's team environment to deliver comprehensive solutions for complex projects.

His involvement in the base-isolated buildings of Hutt Hospital was pioneering seismic engineering - the first in New Zealand. Ray's special knowledge of the requirements for health sector buildings has been valued by clients in Porirua, the Kapiti Coast and Wanganui.

As well as a range of small projects, Ray has been responsible for a variety of major projects including Wrightson Bloodstock Horse Sales Centre at Karaka, south of Auckland, and as principal consultant for a major oil company for the redevelopment of service stations throughout New Zealand.

A fascination for glue laminated timbers has also taken Ray as far afield as Saudi Arabia and Oman, where his work on long-span, multi-arched timber bridges and wooden structures for a hypermarket have left lasting impressions.

Ray has been involved in development of design standards in New Zealand and has been instrumental in writing recommendations for seismic design development. He has also given back to the industry in his position as Head of Engineering at the Central Institute of Technology before he joined our consultancy in 1980.

Ray is a graduate of Canterbury University and a committed family man with five children and eigt grandchildren. If he's not in the office, he may be at the Hutt Golf Club, where he's been a member for the past 20 years, playing competitive bridge or enjoying his exploration of the pinot grape in his role as an enthusiastic winetaster.
